NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK  -  SATURDAY 17TH OF AUGUST 2013 TO SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST 2013.

County Clare has a rich and varied Heritage. You are invited to explore County Clare's Heritage by taking part in the events taking place during Heritage Week.

More than 80 separate events focusing on County Clare's built, natural & cultural heritage will take place during the week which is co-ordinated by Clare Local Authorities and The Heritage Council with support from the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht and Fáilte Ireland. Heritage Week is part of European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union.

Whitegate Community Council will host two events during heritage week. The first event will take place on Tuesday 20th August at 7pm, where local historian Alfie O' Brien will give a guided historical tour of Clonrush cemetery.

On Friday evening 23rd August, wildlife enthusiast Paddy Madden will lead a guided walk on a number of interesting wildlife/plant-life in the locality. People are asked to assemble at Dromaan harbour at 7pm for what promises to be a very enjoyable evening.

Heritage Harvest Open Evening 20th August 5pm-8pm Kilrush Community Garden

Details: Talks on Beekeeping with our Native Black Bees,  growing Heritage Apples from our Orchard sourced from Seed Savers and Heritage Potato Talk, this year GIY Kilrush planted heritage varieties of potatoes including the Lumper for the Famine Commemoration in Kilrush.
The evening will  also include Bug Hunts for Kids, Face painting and talks on harvesting and cooking with local foods.

The Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark are having a 'Stone, Water & Ice Tour';  

An informal whistle-stop mini-bus trip around the nine geosites in the Burren which best tell the geological story.
Bus leaves the Flaggy Shore beach at 9.30am on Sunday 25th August and returns around 5pm. The bus is free. We plan to stop for lunch in the Roadside Tavern (not free). Places are limited, we currently have only 12 seats remaining..hope to see you there.
