The Ralahine Commune was a farming and manufacturing cooperative society established in 1831 near Newmarket-on-Fergus on the estate of John Scott Vandeleur, son of Col. Vandeleur.

It was a unique phenomenon in Irish history and generated much international attention during its existence. While the cooperative lasted only two years, its legacy has continued to generate much commentary.

John O'Brien is a photographer, former bookseller and local history enthusiast. A founder member of the Shannon Archaeological and Historical Society, he has contributed articles to its annual journal, The Other Clare, and was editor of the journal on a number of occasions. He also co-published with Sean Spellissey, books, including 'Clare, County of Contrast' and 'Limerick, The Rich Land.'

KDHS lectures are free to members, EUR5 for non-members, payable on the night only. New members are welcome. The annual membership fee (July-June) is EUR20.

The 200th anniversary of the tragic story brought to life through narration and dramatic reenactment and a short film based on the eyewitness accounts of the time

This play is a multi faceted Regency Whodunit that invites the audience to make up its own mind. Staged to mark the bicentenary of her death, “the eyewitness accounts” adopts the style of a Victorian melodrama to recount this infamous tale of lust.
